Strukton Systems has been asked to connect its Dynamic Passenger Information System running on the ZuidTangent Bus Rapid Transit system to a new information system.

Central public transport information
The provincial authorities of North Holland and the Amsterdam city region authorities have decided to introduce a Dynamic Passenger Information (DPI) system in their region. They have gained practical experience along the Zuidtangent Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system connecting Haarlem, Schiphol and Amsterdam. Dynamic displays on platforms along this route provide passengers with up-to-date passenger information. The authorities have now decided to introduce a system that is controlled through a central server, the so-called GOVI server.

Dynamic Passenger Information System
The DPI system used for the Zuidtangent BRT system has been developed by Strukton Systems. Strukton Systems will now connect the DPI system to the GOVI server. This central server converts the position of the buses into the expected departure times at the bus stops and delivers this information to the DPI system. The DPI system then makes sure that the displays at the bus stops show the newest departure times to the passengers. The Zuidtangent DPI system consists of a central system and units that control the displays at the stops. Arrival and departure times of the buses are registered at the bus stops using short-wave radio communication.

Passengers
The provincial authorities in North Holland and the Amsterdam city region authorities want other Dutch transport companies to join so that travellers using public transport can be served in an optimal way. The additional advantage for the passenger is that the DPI system shows the information in a uniform way. In addition, the system offers future possibilities for public transport information exchange, such as passenger information on mobile phones and in navigation systems.

Various new partners have shown their interest, including the provinces of Utrecht, North Brabant, Flevoland, Zeeland, Groningen and Drenthe. The Utrecht city region has also joined GOVI.
