Strukton Railinfra Zuid has obtained the order for large-scale renewal activities on the Maaslijn, the track section from Venlo to Nijmegen. Bert Klerk, chairman of the executor board of ProRail, and Aike Schoots, managing director of Strukton Railinfra, signed the contract on Friday 10 June 2005. The order involves a Design & Construct Contract amounting to almost 12 million euro.
In addition to the price, the quality and planning also played an important role in the allotment of the order.
The project specifications include two nine-day periods in which the section is closed to traffic. Contractors had to pay for additional closures. Strukton Railinfra Zuid however developed a plan in which no additional closures are required.
The renewal activities have been bundled in one tender. It is the first time that ProRail contracts out different activities at one section in one tender. The advantage is that an optimal combination can be found in activities and time, where one party is responsible for both the construction and the engineering. Holland Railconsult is involved as a subcontractor for the engineering.
The activities involve the renewal of track and sleepers. Several switches and level crossings will also be renewed or reconstructed. The activities will be performed at several sites at the same time. The project is complex from a logistic point of view. Strukton Railinfra will use most of its machines and equipment, including the ballast cleaner and the track renewal train.
