Strukton Rail has shipped its Unimat 8 points tamping machine within 36 hours from Dordrecht (Nehterlands) to Trelleborg (Sweden). In spite of some delays and other setbacks, the transport was two days faster than the five days that are normally required for such a transport.
The Unimat 8 stayed in the Netherlands during the winter, but now it is needed again in Scandinavia. The efficient transport operation enables Strukton Rail to have the machine ready for production soon. The transport operation involved staff from the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.
The efficient execution of this transport demonstrates that the cooperation within Strukton Rail in the area of logistics begins to pay off. In October 2007 representatives of Strukton Railinfra's Belgian, Swedish, German and Dutch operating companies agreed on a common approach to European transports of machinery. This approach is not exclusively aimed at increasing the speed of transport, but also at preventing damage (graffiti, smashed windows) and adapting flexibly to unexpected situations.
