A consortium led by Strukton Systems has won the contract for building a new substation in Surinam. This contract follows a number of projects that all lead to improved power supply in Paramaribo. Some of those projects have been completed and some are still taking place.
The new substation (OSA 3) will be built next to the power station in the Saramaccastraat. The OSA 3 will be identical to the substations that were already built in the Tourtonnelaan and in the districts of Morgenstond, Zorg & Hoop and Peperpot. The new substation will provide for the reliable distribution of power from the 6 kV to the first transformer houses towards the city centre of Paramaribo. The contract includes the entire design, the civil engineering and construction of the station, a 30 MVA transformer from 33 to 6 kV and a 6 kV unit with 20 descending fields.
Strukton Systems leads the consortium consisting of Strukton Systems, ABB, TKF and the subcontractors CCC, Hitelcom and UCC. The project started in September 2009 and will be completed at the end of 2010. The same consortium has been active in Surinam since 2002 to improve the power supply in Paramaribo. The customer is N.V. Energiebedrijven Suriname. The activities started in 2002 with the so-called EPAR project. When this project was completed successfully in 2006, the consortium was awarded the EVP+ project. This contract for this third project followed in September 2009.
