Strukton Rail uses several measuring and inspection trains, like Eurailscout's UFM 120, UFM 160, Jules, UST 96 and UST 02.
UFM 120 and 160
The UFM 120 and UFM 160 are multifunctional measuring and inspection trains that measure track geometry, rail and overhead wires. The UFM trains digitally record the rail surface and surroundings. Via GPS positioning, the current situation can be monitored at a detailed level. The UFM 120 is used in several European countries including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Slovenia, Turkey. The UFM 160 is used in the United Kingdom.
UST 96 and UST 02
De UST 96 and UST 02 are ultrasonic inspection trains. They measure rail using ultrasonic technologies at high speed and with great accuracy. In so doing, they find hidden defaults in rail. The UST 02 uses the combination of ultrasonic and eddy current technologies and therefore finds cracks in the rail surface (headchecks) while they are only a few millimetres deep.
